Find Care & Housing
It sounds like you may be ready to start the Medicaid application process. It takes awhile, so don't wait too long to get started. If your loved one's money is running low, the time to start is now. Medicaid will then take over payments, if the nursing home accepts Medicaid. Most have "Medicaid beds", but you may have to wait for one to become available. Good luck,
Carol

I agree that Medicaid is the answer but as Carol said the process takes quite a while. But if you are actively in the process of applying for Medicaid the nursing home won't discharge her for non-payment. We had to keep in touch with the administrator of my dad's nursing home, let him know at what phase in the Medicaid process we were, and I had to keep on the Medicaid people but eventually he was accepted. It took 3 months.

Our Medicaid caseworker told me that elderly people are rarely denied Medicaid for nursing homes. You just have to do the work, fill out the forms, dot the I's and cross the T's. And also as Carol said, start the process ASAP.
