A good night's sleep, chocolate, the happiness and satisfaction of sharing on AgingCare forum. Does anyone have some favorite things to think about? Yes, this phrase is from the song in the movie "The sound of Music". My husband and I often resort to using movie lines and song to improve communication. We were the only two in a gathering of people who heard the background music playing. We both had the same (cassette tape/CD). A connection bringing two people together. To this day, we crack up when one uses a simple movie line to make a serious point.
SO, What is one of your favorite movie line, some of your favorite things?
We are neighbors and I'm in the province next door.:-) Still have family in Vancouver but I haven't been out to visit since 2008. Driving through Golden always freaks me out.
When you mentioned Nanaimo bars, I haven't seen them in awhile but I will have to go and look for them this weekend. Crazy to think Christmas is only 5 days away.
cwillie - you might be lucky to have a good supplier of Nanaimo bars - all we get here are the President's Choice ones that come frozen. Not even close to grandma's! Or maybe it's my memories, lol...
Happy to meet another Canadian. Yes, I love those Nanaimo bars! But I haven't yet visited Vancouver Island.
Just tonight I had pizza with bacon, spicy chicken and pineapple. Its one of my favorites.
Have you guys ever had Nanaimo bars? Canadian specialty. Mmmmm. My grandma used to make 'em. She said they were expensive to make so she only made them at Christmas. The store bought ones are garbage in comparison.
Have you guys ever been to Nanaimo? Lovely place on Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island is also one of my favourite things. :-)
Also....BUMPing this over the troll threads. :-)
I'm with you when it comes to loving shortbread as well. Its the time of year for it, so I think its okay to indulge a bit.:-)
I stared at her confused. She said that her coworker is like me - single, no children. So her coworker bought a realistic baby doll, changes it, feeds it, etc.. like a real baby.
I looked at sis with horror. No!! Two of the realistic dolls will be used to guard against the bad spirits. I'm going to set them to face all entrances and ask them to guard the entrances from the bad spirits. And the 3rd one... I gave her a sheepish look and said, "I always regretted getting rid of my realistic twin dolls because you were afraid of them."
Sis looked apologetic and said, "I was always sorry that you got rid of them because I was afraid of them. It's my fault that I watch horror movies. That's why you're not afraid of dolls because you always avoided watching scary movies." Sis shuddered... She's still scared of dolls - especially those that looks so real...
I told sis that the 3rd doll is Not going to be treated like family. It's just a doll that I want. Hehehe... I'm currently window shopping on Ebay for it's eye glass frames because it doesn't come with eye glasses.
There is a Youtube video "pig eating crisps" - that's me with the millionaire's shortbread!
On the box is: "Mamador", que contiene leche y mantequilla, es dulce que nos recuerda la suavidad de madres las que cantaban las poesias en los dias de nuestra infancia.... {okay, off to google translate..}
Carol of the Bells by Trans Siberian Express is my go to song to pump me up for Christmas shopping, baking, you name it.
Carol of the Bells has to be my favorite.
My favorite thing right is eggnog lattes from Starbucks! I'm also loving molasses cookies!

"Carol of the Bells"
Glad to know there’s a song! I will google it later.
I was going to put in a call to the North Pole to see if they could fix MsMadge up!
Katiekay,
I think we’ve all wanted odd things for Christmas as kids.
Baby Hippos are cute!
For years I had them in my bedroom that I shared with fave sis. She hated those dolls. My family couldn’t stand them, creepy how their eyes followed them. To my regret, I finally caved in and got rid of them. ... As the years went by, I bought 2 more realistic dolls but the grown up version. One is obviously a studious teenager with eye glass. The second one is an young medium brown skin Indian in brown leather outfit with long black hair and eye glass (looks like my people.)
Lastnight, I found the ultimate realistic doll in Amazon. I actually gasped when I first saw it. She’s described as similar to Mexican. I debated for hours because she’s quite expensive. I finally asked myself, “Will I regret not buying her?” Immediately answered yes. And guess what, the shipping cost was only $13 not a ridiculous price of $25 +... I still have some leftover Amazon gift card which I applied to the purchase. I got it!!
FYI, I went to the doll’s official website and was going to buy an oriental dress with matching shoes and a black boots plus $5.50 shipping = $33.00. OMG, when I put my zip code in at payment, the shipping cost went from $6 to $55!!! Heck no! I didn’t buy it.
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinkertoy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door
That's the easy thing to do
I can see me now on Christmas morning
Creeping down the stairs
Oh, what joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too
Mom says the hippo would eat me up
But then teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian
There's lots of room for him in our two car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there
And give him his massage
I can see me now on Christmas morning
Creeping down the stairs
Oh, what joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too
Lyrics for The Hippopotamus Song by Flanders & Swann
A bold hippopotamus was standing one day
On the banks of the cool Shalimar
He gazed at the bottom as he peacefully lay
By the light of the evening star
Away on the hilltop sat combing her hair
His fair hippopotami maid
The hippopotamus was no ignoramus
And sang her this sweet serenade
Mud, mud, glorious mud
Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood
So follow me follow, down to the hollow
And there let me wallow in glorious mud
The fair hippopotama he aimed to entice
From her seat on that hilltop above
As she hadn't got a ma to give her advice
Came tiptoeing down to her love
Like thunder the forest re-echoed the sound
Of the song that they sang as they met
His inamorata adjusted her garter
And lifted her voice in duet
Mud! Mud! etc.
Now more hippopotami began to convene
On the banks of that river so wide
I wonder now what am I to say of the scene
That ensued by the Shalimar side
They dived all at once with an ear-splitting splosh
Then rose to the surface again
A regular army of hippopotami
All singing this haunting refrain
Mud, mud, glorious mud
Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood
So follow me follow, down to the hollow
And there let us wallow in glorious mud
The fair hippopotama he aimed to entice
With the something something
'Cos she hadn't got a ma to give her advice
Came tip-toeing down to her love.
Like something the something something
Of the song that he sang as they met
His inamorata
Adjusted her garter
And lifted her voice in duet:
[falsetto]
Mud! Mud! Glorious mud!
Nothing quite like it
For cooling the blood!
So follow me, follow
Down to the hollow
And there let us wallow
In glooooooorious mud.
From 'The Hippopotamus Song' by Michael Flanders & Donald Swann.
A Hippo?!? Is that a song?
If you want a Hippo I hope you have a pool! And a big shovel!
How many reindeer does Santa have?
eight reindeer
In traditional lore, Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
