More and more, my parents are making messes under their bedside commode, which is just a basic model. I've seen other models on Amazon which might work better. Any experience with this situation/advice?

Adding on to funkygrandma's post - if it's a case of your dad peeing on the floor a urinal might be a better option for him.
And just to add.... those floor protectors for under office chairs make good barriers under commodes.

My late husband used just a traditional bedside commode(nothing fancy) for the last 3 years of his life and there was never a mess under it, as my husband sat on it for both peeing and pooping.
So if your parents have a mess under theirs it's probably because your dad is still standing to pee and not sitting down to pee.
It's not the commode, but your dad I'm guessing, so try to get him to sit for all toilet functions and the messes should disappear.

The only advice I can give you is to check for stability of the commode. Some tip when seniors attempt to use them much like a walker, for support. You might consider going to a medical supply store if any are in your area, looking at walkers, then using your google lens to check on where the favorite is easiest available at best price. Sorry to take business from the company where you are exploring, and if you can afford to use them, please do, as my recommendation steals money and business from legitimate folks trying to survive Amazon.

If you explore on Amazon itself be sure to read comments on product. They are quite helpful.
