All I can say is that using a bedpan can be painful. Are you using a fracture pan (the plastic blue/green graduated device) vs those huge silver old type bedpan?) and it’s hard for a person to get comfortable on a bedpan to do their business.

Every situation is unique. CG’s often know what works best for their patient. Maybe discuss your peer’s rationale with them and ask them why they choose to do it that way. You may learn something about the patient that will help you provide care.

Gotta ask..have you ever tried using a bed pan?
Uncomfortable
Awkward
Messy.
A disposable pad is so much easier.
A commode is even easier if transfer is possible and safe. No to mention it retains some sense of normalcy and dignity.
There are Hoyer Lifts with a sling that has a commode hole that makes moving a person into position for the commode very easy and safe. Makes it much easier to clean someone as well. And positioning someone back on the bed with the brief under them is a breeze.
If my only choices were the bed pan or the disposable pad..I vote for the disposable pad.
