Why would you not be able to be a caregiver for your spouse?

If you mean one who is paid by the state, and you want payment, usually not.
However, laws in some states are changing. Especially if one is on SSDI or Disability or Medicaid some states are having programs in which family members ARE paid something for caring for qualifying spouses or parents.
It will be up to you to call the local council on agency for guidance in what numbers to call for your own state.
I would love it if you come back to tell us what you find out and what state your information applies to.

Best of luck.

Of course you can.

Why wouldn’t you be able to?

DeloresB, welcome to the forum. When you get a chance please fill out your Profile page as that will give us a better understanding of the situation.

Spouses, when able, always tend to take care of the spouse that needs help. Just curious why you asked this question? Is there something more that is required?
