The last time I was there he had a loaded gun with the trigger pulled back to shoot. I was scared and he is paranoid which makes things worse. I need to know what I can do to help someone who does not want any help but is a danger to those around him and himself.

You need to call adult protective services today ! Your Dad needs to be in a nursing home, probably a lockdown facility. He is way beyond staying at home , even with a caregiver. Tell them exactly what you told us. Please don't wait. You would be doing the right thing , for all concerned. They will have a caseworker to help you and your Dad. God Bless you Justmeg. PS He won't like it at all, but remember, he is not capable of making decisions, anymore.

I can't believe how many postings I have seen on this issue of firearms in a home of someone who can become violent because of their memory issues. Am I missing something here? Why on earth would anyone allow someone to have ammo under these conditions? In the meantime, prior to getting Dad into a professional environment, remove all the ammo immediately before he hurts you, or someone else, or himself.

My husband kept a loaded gun under his pillow during the early to mid stages of alz..coincidently pointed my direction. Early on I had a neighbor disable the gun. Everything about it looked the same but it wouldn't fire. That took the terror out of that situation but I was not dealing with violent behavior. That has to be addressed and with professionals. Good luck

Peroxide is very good at getting blood stains out of carpet. You don't really need to know that though, because the BATF will lob a teargas cartridge through a window and darn it all, those things are incendiary. Usually the house catches fire, but the firemen will hose down the adjacent homes to protect them. On the bright side, you save the cost of being cremated.
