My husband is showing signs of dementia and has for a long time given up on doing much else but eating watching tv and being generally lazy. What the heck? Am I just heartless?

What signs of dementia are you seeing? What you describe sounds more like depression.

I sometimes think it’s depression also but it’s more than that.
Telecall with his physician on Thursday. Stay tuned. Progress.

Can you get him to the PCP for a full check up and cognitive exam as well? Then you'll know for sure if he's dealing with cognitive impairment vs. laziness, etc. I'm sure you're not a heartless wife.....just one who's looking for answers as to why her husband seems to have given up on life at such a young age! That's a fair question to have, too.

Wishing you good luck!

We have Telecall with his physician on Thursday. Progress. I’ll ask for full work up then. Thanks!

When was the last full checkup? For Diabetes? Kidney function? Heart?

There is so much, so many things that this could be.
Your first thing would be to have him have a full exam.
The simple and vague description you give could describe my 7 year old grandson, or the 19 year old one. It could describe boredom, depression, dementia, and any number of other medical conditions.
