Elkman, could it be that your wife doesn't like the side effects from the medicine? Sometimes the side effects are worse then what the pill is to help.

Tell her doctor what is happening, maybe he/she could prescribe something else for your wife.

Elkman, I see from your profile that your wife has Alzheimer's/Dementia, does she refuse to do other things around the house? Just wondering if this was just a pill thing. Does she take other pills such as blood pressure pills, vitamins?

Sometimes we need to trick a person into taking meds, thus if the pill can be crushed [check with her doctor] you can hide it in applesauce.... or in my Mom's case where she dislikes applesauce, then try chocolate pudding.

Can you ask the doctor to go over her meds and see if anything isn't critical? I suspect that too many seniors are overmedicated. The discussion on statin drugs is a good example--Few if any people really need it, and the side effects are dangerous. They are also finding that older people do better with somewhat higher blood pressure, as well; and bp meds can cause serious dizziness.
