I gave someone a ride to and from their destination and they only paid $20. I feel that wasn't enough for a 90 mile round trip.

Depends if you are in California, where regular gas is running $4.49 a gallon at a discount gas station and $5.59 at Chevron or Exxon. $20 gets me a quarter tank on a good day.

2024 IRS Mileage Rate is .67 cents a mile, or $60.30.

For me it would have a lot to do with who I was bringing, if it was an aquatance that asked , then I'd expect more.

But if it was a good friend, I wouldnt expect anything, for a one time emergency trip someplace. If it was a regular occurrence I'd take the 20. And if it became to regular, id say no .

Others are right you should of set the price ahead

Are you asking just about the price of the gas you used (2.85 here in NYC and my car gets 30 mpg.). So less than $10. for 90 miles

What is your TIME worth?

You come to a negotiated price BEFORE the ride, not after.
Ask them to pay for your gas and to pay for the hours you need.
Chalk this up to a LEARNING experience. Best out to you.

Why didn't you give them a price up front then?
