Find Care & Housing
I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions for you in finding a care facility. However, I do want to tell you that I am so pleased that you have noticed your need for assisted living. We don't often here from those who are living with a dementia disease. The vast majority of us in this forum have been or currently are caregivers to a loved one with dementia or another serious disease. So many living with dementia tend to deny their underlying disease by trying to rationalize it- it's normal aging, it's just a senior moment, I feel fine- even after they have been given a diagnosis. It sounds like you have accepted your diagnosis and realize there may be a better place for you to live with your disease.

We as caregivers have a completely different experience than our LO living with dementia has. I don't mean to be presumptuous, and it's a personal question, but would you be willing to tell us a little about how YOU cope? How you get thru each day? What causes you to seek assisted living? What feelings you experience? I know these are intrusive questions, and certainly you don't need to respond if you don't want to, I understand. But even as an 8 year caregiver for my wife, I never really understood her feelings, her behaviors, her needs. If you decide to respond, thank you!

I wish you well in finding a wonderful ALF.

Contact Blue Cross and ask to have a Case Manager ( social worker) assigned to you. The case manager should be able to help you with a variety of issues. I have a weekly call with my Blue Cross CM and find her to be extremely helpful after I got a bad diagnosis.

Sorry, we can't help you as a forum. Members are from all over the US, Canada, UK, etc. If your are on a laptop or scroll down on a tablet or phone and you will see "Find Care and Housing". Put your info in and it will show you places near you.

I don't know why a Doctor would be requested to find you a place. Assisted livings are private pay. In some states Medicaid may pay for it. They can cost 5k and up depending on your needs. Social Security alone is not going to cover the cost. The other option would be a skilled nursing facility with Medicaid and you SS paying for it.

You need to contact your Senior Advisor. As suggested your County should have an office on aging.

Wow you are awful young for such a diagnosis. Vascular dementia is the most aggressive of all the dementia's, and I'm sorry you're having to deal with that at such a young age. You should be able to call your local Senior Services or Council on Aging, and they will have social workers to help you find the appropriate help and placement if needed. I wish you the very best.
