My dad is 94 and lives in Carteret, NJ. He has early dementia and needs in home assistance/care to watch and care for him at night. He makes frequent trips to the bathroom so he needs help getting to and from the bathroom. He also has insomnia. He does not require meds given. I need to find and agency with a good reputation that can provide my father with a reliable/responsible caregiver (CHHA Certified) without fear of getting someone who is lazy or dishonest.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I had preferred 3 shifts so that way each caregiver could go home and get a restful sleep before her/his next day shift. The night shift was awake for their whole 8 hours and had their ear in tune in case Dad got up out of bed.
My Dad [also in his 90's] was able to meet a variety of caregivers for a week, then he choose which one or two he wanted on a regular basis. For the 2nd and 3rd shift, it didn't matter to him. It is always helpful to get a good match with someone with similar interest. The two caregivers were with my Dad for over a year.
Please note, around the clock care can be expensive. In my area, it was costing my Dad around $20k per month, yes per month. Thank goodness Dad had a "rainy day" fund. Eventually Dad moved into Independent Living facility and brought along his first shift caregiver [there were 2, one for M-F, one for weekends]. This worked great as it gave Dad a routine. The caregivers also were able to follow Dad when he moved into Memory Care.
