My mom is living in my townhome. It's getting harder for her to use the stairs. Bedrooms are all upstairs. She bends down to do stuff and then she can't get up. She is having a hard time getting meals and doing many tasks. I'm having to go over more often and it's hard when I am working. She is still independent though. Her mind is good other than forgetting some things like names. She's diabetic and has thyroid disease so it physically hard for her. We can't afford a nice independent living apartment where she can live alone and get meals , cleaning and other help.
There may be some programs that might provide a caregiver. Contact your local Agency on Aging and ask if there are programs available.
In a Townhouse with stairs might not be the best option. If she is going to continue living with you a ranch home or one that has a first floor bedroom with a full bath might be a better option.
