My mother has been diagnosed with dementia almost a year ago. Lately, I have noticed she is very anxious as well. Whenever I visit her at rest home, she is restless, she wouldn't sit in a place. Even if I bring her home, she wouldn't wait.

Is she uncomfortable or showing signs of distress? Is it more than being restless? I'd discuss it with her doctor and see what the options are. You might also consult with a geriatric psychiatrist.

My LO takes Cymbalta, which is for depression and Anxiety. It helps her a lot. If not for this med, she would be extremely anxious, worried and in extreme distress. Of course, there are varying medications, but, she lucked out with this one from the start. It's taken daily and keeps her mood pretty good.

Some people are prescribed Xanax, but, it was not that helpful for my LO.

Yes, there are many different medications for anxiety. Choosing one depends on what other medications she is taking. If you have health care proxy, sit down with the head nurse and talk it over.

Yes, there are meds to help with anxiety. I had to try different ones to find one that I felt that worked and didn't have side-effects. The doctor started me on the very lowest dosage made, then cut that dosage in half as I am pill sensitive.
