Does the hospice provider that you are using provide an ‘end of life’ facility or care home?

Check to see if they do. My mom was in a care home provided by hospice.

You can always switch providers if your hospice organization doesn’t do this. Look for one that does.

Check into Medicaid also if expenses are an issue.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Traditionally, Medicare pays for the services provided by hospice, nothing else. When mom was released from the SNF to go back to her memory care AL, I paid for the wheelchair accessible van to transport her there. Or, I could've driven her myself if I had my husband to help me schlep the equipment along with her.

Call your MILs supplemental Medicare insurance customer service number on the back of the card to ask that question, however, bc each policy carries it's own rules. There is no way a forum can answer an across the board question for everyone on Medicare w different supplements.

Why do u need to move her to another facility?

Hospice is paid by Medicare. Medicare is a health insurance that pays for Hospice care but not the facility room and board. If you having a problem paying for the room, No Medicare does not pay for that. So, if Medicare doesn't pay for that either will Hospice.

If money is now the problem, you will need to apply for Medicaid and that does not happen overnight. If this is a married person the spouse's needs need to be considered too. They become the Community Spouse. Assets need to be split. More involved if just a single person. You will need an elder lawyer.

Thanks for letting us know that it's the facility and the care you are talking about.

As others have said, if your loved one doesn't have the means to pay for the facility, you should apply for Medicaid.
