I’m helping my brother. Hopefully we can afford to get him into Independent Living as he currently lives at home and can’t really take care of himself. The place we are considering has 3 meals but I want to add medication services as well as possible laundry services. I know there are companies out there to hire for this but wondered if it is possible to get these services through Medicare or possibly Medicaid? I have immersed myself in anything I can read to educate myself and found this forum. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

I agree with strugglin son. This is a case of incorrect placement. It is now too late, or soon will be, for independent living which does require that a person be "independent" in giving own medications, getting back and forth the appointments, showering, and etc.

I would check out ALF. Assisted living often doesn't cost a good deal more than independent living.
I think this is the level of care it sounds as though your brother requires.

I wish you the best. I think that hiring someone in to do all you require would be very costly.

independent living places can have dining room/ meals, and laundry service,, but when you get to medication assistance, thats usually Assited living

thats how my Dad's place works. In independent living, they get an apartment, and can optionally sign up for dining room service ( meals), housekeeping, and laundry. But mediation service is only offered in the assisted living side

Look into supported housing, maybe called board & care, or CCRC.

Often a six-bed residential care home.

Sorry but

Don't, just don't to board and care, group home , whatever they call it. Not what many think they are.

I don’t think he can afford assisted living. We haven’t applied for Medicaid I’ve been told assisted living is totally out of pocket

"...he currently lives at home and can’t really take care of himself..."

He doesn't sound like a candidate for IL. Even if this is what he insists on, don't allow him to move there or you'll just be moving him again next month or sooner. ALs have a la carte services like laundry and meds.

No Medicare or Medicaid covers IL. My mom did get weekly light housekeeping, laundry and some transportation for appointments but as time went on, she needed someone to go with her to appointments. You have to see what is included.
As for medications, her place was big enough for me to hire a caregiver to give her prepared daily meds twice a day for a 15 minute visit. That may be a rare instance. I also hired someobe to assist her for showers. If you cannot find those services or he needs reminders to go to eat, then he may need the next step up to AL. Can he afford self pay?

You can also look at board and care homes but he may be wait listed
