My 97 yo Alz mother has 2 aides who share 24- hour live in care with 1 aide 4 days/ week the other on weekends. We have Ring cams. The other afternoon I saw my mom get angry about something the aide did. I don’t trust this aide to begin with. But we have on cam that she took mom into the bathroom where there is no cam and can hear mom yelp and whimper. When they came out, the aide tells mom that next time she’ll break her nose. My sibling took mom to urgent care next day. Her back ribs hurt and may be bruised. Needless to say we immediately told the Medicaid funded agency and sent them the videos and of course will never allow that side back, after 10 months with us. What other recourse or avenues can we pursue? Or should we simply move on.

Documentation is key! I'd advise anyone that If a video camera isn't available, a written diary kept regularly with every visit to the LO can be very helpful. Write the good, the bad and the ugly. It is important to note date, time of day and name names. Never fail to write an entry for every visit, even if it is brief. Vague complaints never accomplish much. But a written account that the facility can check with their records can also be used effectively in court, if it ever comes to that.
You've already presented your evidence to the agency this caregiver is employed by. It is for them to punish her and for sure they fired her. She will be replaced by another aide of the lowest order and poorest work ethic because that's the quality minimum wage gets. Care agencies will pretty much hire anyone and when you're getting it free from Medicaid the care expectations should be very low indeed.
I've been a senior homecare worker for a very long time. Many of my caregiving years were as agency employment before I went private pay cases only. I've seen firsthand the type of people a homecare agency will hire so I'm going to do you a favor and let you in on something.
Don't press the matter with the police. Let the homecare agency this person works for handle it. You suspect that this worker physically assaulted your 97 year old mother. You heard her on camera literally threaten to break your mother's nose next time.
This aide is a real scumbag. Keep in mind that she knows where your mother lives and may also know where you do, and scumbags always have friends in very low places.
I would not press the matter beyond reporting it to the agency she works for. You would do well to hire private help for your mother in the future. People who you can strenuously check out. People who come with real references from actual families they've worked for.
If you're dealing with a Medicaid-paid agency you're going to get what you pay for.
This is why people think they can pull this crap. Because people are to afraid of retribution. That can be part of the report and then the police will look at them if something happens. You can't get away with things when people speak up, only what's kept in the dark thrives on scum.
The aids should never know how they get paid, that is nobody's business and should never effect the level of care.
This person needs to be prevented from working with vulnerable human beings.
Call 911 and report this, file the complaint and get that name on record.
I had to file complaints on behalf of my dad, it would never help him but, it protected others. Please be the one that makes this hard choice.
Or hire a thug to smash her nose in. Tempting with scum that will do this to vulnerable people.
