Hello everyone,
My grandad (96) passed away two weeks ago after a few months of suffering. My grandma (88) is now heavily depressed, she doesn't want to do anything, and talks all day how she doesn't want to live anymore. She has trouble with walking, and it takes much effort to take her outside, but she is not even interested in it. What can I do to help her?

Be loving, be kind, be patient. Grandma's life partner, her soul mate, her immediate reason for living, died just two weeks ago. It will take her a great deal longer to adjust to the drastic changes she is experiencing. If this persists for months and months it might be helpful to get her evaluated and treated for depression. But mourning is to be expected.

Dear milse,

My deepest sympathies and condolences. I am very sorry for your loss. I hope you will surround your grandmother with lots of family in the meantime. It will take time to grieve and mourn.

If she continues this lack of desire to do anything and lack of desire to live, she may need to see her doctor for an antidepressant and she needs someone like a pastor to talk with about this loss and her life moving forward.
