It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. This may be simplistic, but I've found that singing calmed my grandfather, especially when I sang songs from his youth. Sometimes, I could get him to sing with me, even when he couldn't form rational sentences.
brianlk: This is so difficult for you and for her. Calmly speak to her with reassuring words that are truthful, i.e. "I am Brian, your husband, who loves you very much." She may question this because of her illness. All rationale has gone. As Grandma1954 has said, she may indeed be unsure that you are her husband. In all cases, show her love.
Your wife is at the point in her disease where she's gone back in time to an age when she wasn't married to you, most likely. So she is looking for the people who she was sharing her life with at that time, when she was say, 20 years old. That's why she doesn't know who you are, and why she doesn't recognize your house. This is not an orderly time reversal; she may remember more or less on different days and at different times during the day. Early mornings & late afternoons (Sundowning) are usually the most difficult for dementia sufferers. Don't try to correct her, just take Grandma1954's advice and keep her calm, to the best of your ability.

The reviews for her books are phenomenal b/c they are written in plain English & very easy to read/understand. Her writings have been VERY helpful for me.

thank you for replying, my wife contiuely wants to go home. packs her bags and is ready to leave. how do you stop them other than to tell them they cannot leave.
Reassure her she is safe. Gently remind her who you are. Just say "I'm brianlk, you are safe here at home" If she does not "know" who you are and wants to know where "brianlk" is tell her that you will stay with her until he gets back. Don't try to convince her that you are her husband. Sometimes leaving the room one way and returning to the room from a different door will help. Sometimes when I would be shopping with my Husband and he would start looking around I would ask what was wrong and he would say "I'm looking for my wife" and I would say "well can I walk with you until we find her" and I would leave the cart and make our way to the car and once he would see the car he would be alright. If there is a blanket or toy that she likes hand that to her it will help calm her. The sometimes difficult thing to remember is to not argue with her reality, you will never win an argument with someone with dementia it will just upset and frustrate both of you.
