I travel 40 minutes to and from, 7 days a week to take care of my grandmother, 100 hours a week I am giving and it's becoming too much. I have guardianship and conservatorship of her. We don't have the funds to pay for a caregiver and I have given up my entire life, put off my marriage, and I am burned out beyond belief and it is becoming more stressful. I don't know what to do at this point because I need Medicaid to apply for/recieve pace and waiver so she can get the care that she needs. This is only sustainable financially for my fiance and I for about another month if that. I feel stuck, depressed, tired and exhausted. I wanted to get them set up here and had every intention on coming every weekend to go shopping and do cleaning for them, get whatever they needed but now because of Medicaid not accepting her, I am here all day every single day. It's not that I don't want to help, I love them very much I am just not built for this.

If your going for Long-term care, then you need to see an Elder lawyer well versed in Medicaid. Their assets need to be split. Grandmoms would go for her care and when almost gone, youvapply for Medicaid. Grandpa becomes the Community Spouse remaining in the home, has a car and enough or all of the monthly income to live on.

Not sure how thevin home care will work. The spend down and assets cap are the same. How it works when there is a spouse, I have no idea. It would really not hurt to consult with an Elder lawyer since she has been turned down. He can help you reapply.

You would be wise to discuss this with an elder law attorney in their area. There are miller trusts, other things that may help. Division of assets and even legal seperation or divorce can work to benefit of elders. Otherwise there is a risk of the assets of a couple being spent down so that only about 100,000 can be preserved for the spouse not currently needing care.

So which Medicaid program did g’ma apply to? Medicaid is a huge # of different programs and it makes a difference.

If she was ineligible there should be specific reason(s) why. So what precisely was in the denial letter?
