Really, not much u can do. If she seems over anxious, then ask about Medication to help. All you can do is visit. And you can keep it short. Its really for your peace of mind, because Mom is probably in her own world and has not conception of time or where she is.
I'm not actually sure what kind of "tips" your needing, but as I'm sure you're already aware of, vascular dementia is the most aggressive of all the dementias, with a life expectancy of only 5 years, so yes someone with it can deteriorate rather quickly. My husband was diagnosed with it in July 2018(though he should signs before then)and died Sept. 2020, and his progression with it was very quick. The best thing that I can tell you is just be there for your mom, let her know how much you love her, forgive her if necessary for any unresolved issues, and leave nothing left unsaid, as her time here on this earth is more limited than most. Be her advocate, and it probably wouldn't hurt to get hospice involved at this point as well, as they will send a nurse to the nursing home to check on her once a week to start, and aides to come bathe her a couple times a week, and supply any and all needed supplies, equipment, and medications, all covered 100% under moms Medicare. It can never hurt to have extra eyes on someone especially in a nursing facility. So please do your best to just enjoy whatever time you may have left with her. God bless you.
It would help you get specific tips if you can give us more info on what aspect of her dementia you are struggling with? What stage (approx) is she in, what behaviors is she displaying, what other health issues does she have. Your profile says she is in a nursing home. Everything about dementia is hard. Everyone on this forum has something helpful or supportive to offer you. Just need a little more info.
