Hi
My mother is in lock in condition after suffering from third stroke attack. She is at home, bed ridden situation. She is around 84 and do not speak. It's 2am here now. I left her sleeping around 9pm and everything was normal as usual, but I just get up to feed her via nasogastric tube, time now 2am, I see a black spot around her left eye, and it's a bit swallow spot. Why is that? What to do to in case like that.. I am thinking to put a gauze on it after socking it with cold water, is that good thing to do.. Thanks a lot

It sounds like a blood vessel has ruptured near the eye. A cool cloth would help make it feel better. Leave it uncovered to keep an eye on it. Call her MD in the morning.

Hopefully it is just a ruptured blood vessel. I had some dark spots around my iris and it ended up being a melanoma. It was "frozen off" with no pain. I am thankful I went to a specialist at Sloan Kettering. Best to have it checked out just in case. Unfortunately, I never wore sunglasses!!! I hope for the best for your mom.

She has had a blood vessel rupture and with the eyes I would not take a chance. It could be a detached retina, so get her to a doctor quickly.

Ferris: The poster said mom is in lock in condition, so getting to the doc may not be an option.
