My wife is in a rehabilitation facility following a fall that occurred a few weeks ago. My insurance and Medicare after a 20 day stay have reduced my responsibility from a cost of $20 dollars a day and now it is up to $203 per day for the next 100 days unless she recovers her strength and can be released back to our home.Any help will be greatly appreciated. Michael
You can appeal to Medicare and try and extend the eligibility. The rehab center should provide you with the number. Always use the phrase progressing slowly due to (insert whatever injury she suffered from fall). Also check with your insurance to see if there is a cap on annual expenses so you are not overpaying out of pocket for health care.
Also, highly suggest retaining an eldercare attorney that specializes in the Medicaid application process to help you sort out the financial aspects you will need to spend down for your wife to be eligible for Mediciad long term care. The cost of an attorney is worth every penney to best divide and protect the assets for you to remain in your home if your wife should need LTC.
