I watched the video today showing 5 top locations for retirement living for golvers. Do you have similar top spots for those of us that want to live by the water? Ideally ocean or bay, but lake or river okay, too, Thank you!

You can enter your preferred body of water, or city, here, and use the drop-down menu for CCRCs, and then look at the websites:

Go to the bottom of the page and under "FIND SENIOR CARE" click on the type of community you are looking for.
OR
To the right on the page there is a area where you can request info. Fill out the information, click on request info and I almost bet as soon as you click your phone will ring.

I'm in Maine, and Piper Shores is right on the ocean in Scarborough, near Portland. https://www.pipershores.org/ It's the type of CCRC where you pay a hefty buy-in and high monthly fees, but those fees do not change if you need a higher level of care. If you're familiar with types of CCRCs, Piper Shores is a lifecare community with a type A contract.

Also near the ocean and near Portland is Oceanview at Falmouth. https://oceanviewrc.com/ Oceanview has independent living cottages and apartments; memory care; and assisted living but no skilled nursing unit. There's a refundable buy in for cottages and apartment and a monthly fee that covers a lot, but for memory care and assisted living it's pay as you go; cottage and apartment residents have priority to go to other levels of care, and their buy-in is 90% refunded if they have to move to another care level where they pay monthly with no buy-in.

The Cedars in Portland isn't directly on the water, but the ocean is very close. https://www.thecedarsportland.org/ The Cedars business model is like Oceanview's. It only has apartments for independent living, no cottages, but has rehab and skilled nursing levels as well as memory care and assisted living.

The grounds are more extensive at Piper Shores and Oceanview than at The Cedars. I have friends at both Oceanview and The Cedars in independent living, and they really like these places. The husband of one of them at The Cedars has made extensive use of their rehab, but he's now had to move to their nursing unit because of complications of Parkinson's that has rendered him unable to walk or move well.
