look up the home care agencies in your city. Home Instead, Visiting Angels, Homewell, and many others. Local hospice agencies can usually give you a list of local agencies even if you are not signed up with hospice. The agency will send a representative to your home to interview you and discuss your needs and what they can provide. In our experience, they were very timely, representative out in 1-2 days. Caregivers started shortly after. You will have to sign some sort of contract so do understand what you are signing. They will likely not guarantee a specific caregiver all the time. “The goal is consistency”. Hospice may also have a list of local private caregivers but it’s up to you to call, interview and vet them and determine if you want to work with the particular caregiver and payment arrangements. There are many posts on Aging Care discussing the pros and cons of both. Search topics. Good luck.

I second Alva Deer's comments. Compare the agencies in your area for services and fees. Your local branch of the Alzheimer's Association might have a list of local agencies for home care; you do not need to have Alzheimer's to access this list and it is very helpful in finding who is available. It is worth paying a little extra to use a reputable agency with good background checks and referrals. Some of the cheaper options might expose you to questionable people and practices.

I would start, if you are willing and can pay a bit extra, with such agencies for home care as Visiting Angels and so on. They often cost more, and they often require minimums such as three days a week four hours a day, but they also often vet better. 5 years ago when I check with Visiting Angels in Palm Spring the fee was 30 and hour; they would even vet someone's license if I wished to have someone who could drive my brother to do shopping. That may ALL have changed; 5 years these days is ancient history.

Otherwise you have such online sites as Care.com. NextDoor works for some quite well if you post your needs, but do take care. You do not know folks on the site.
I wish you good luck.
