My grandfather (92) has dementia and it's been worsening. He's functional (can walk and perform some ADLs), however he definitely needs assistance. He's been sundowning at night, refuses to eat, gets agitated, and occasionally wanders. He has 2 daughters, one of which makes very little money, and the other is unemployed (each 70 and 71 years old respectively).
How do you pay for Memory Care?
From my knowledge room & board are never covered and that's 5-7k/month.
Where can that money come from? My grandfather has no assets or property. He does have Medicare and Medicaid, but how far can that get him?
Will he be obligated to stay with my elder aunts (his daughters)?
One of them is currently looking for a place to live (she's with her son) in a studio apartment. The other is married (also in a studio apartment).

Medicaid should pay for either memory care or skilled nursing for your grandfather, so get a social worker that can walk you and his family through the process, and so you can get him placed sooner than later.

Contact the Council on Aging in his area and relate his situation. Ask for their social worker to guide you in finding residential care that’s appropriate for him and help in making it happen.

Medicaid in most states for long term care (LTC) is Ususlly only available for nursing homes. Some states have a waiver program for ALF. This he would need to qualify for both physically and medically.
At 92 with dementia he might qualify.
Where does he live now?
Is one of his daughters his POA?
If he has a POA then they could contact Area Agency on Aging and see if he could have a caseworker assess him for needs.
‘If he doesn’t have a POA then he might become a ward of the state. Depending on the severity of his dementia he might still be able to assign one of his daughters or other person willing to take on managing his care.
His daughters are not obligated to take him in but perhsps they can work to get him placed.
