Narcolepsy was my first thought. Surely, they've checked for stroke, so I'd ask about narcolepsy testing. I hope that they find out what this is. Not knowing is worse than knowing almost anything.
Take care,
Carol

Has your mother been checked for narcolepsy? People with narcolepsy fall asleep without warning, anywhere, anytime.

Have a sleep study done. She will have to stay overnight. At 60 yrs. this might be more of a mini stroke. In any event, her symptoms are not "normal" and keep trying to find out why she has these symptoms.

I suggest a doctors visit.

When I encounter sudden general behavior changes my first thought is another UTI and I grab a sample in test with a test strip. Cheap and quick. If test is positive I call our PCP tell her TA (test analysis) strip was positive and she knows from past UTI's to send RX and after a few pills behavior returns to pre-UTI
Bought a jar of test strips, if ADW drops one no big deal. Been a major help since she gets UTI's often.

I bought from Amazon:

by Estwarkim

Easy to use, just dip and read

My 94-year-old mother has had mini-strokes and sleeps most of the time. An assistant living staff turns her in her bed about every 2-3 hours.

Definitely go to a sleep clinic for over-night testing.
