My dad is dying in the hospital from a number of health issues. He’s been on 4 liters of oxygen 24/7 for about 7 years. We called in tonight to see how he was doing and the nurse said the respiratory therapist lowered his oxygen to 2 liters. Why would they lower it? He’s never had it that low. Is it because the end is near and he’s breathing less? Calling in the hospital and getting any satisfaction is like pulling teeth. We can’t visit because of COVID-19. I hope someone can tell me why they would lower his oxygen liters. I’m very concerned
I am a RN. I tried to keep my patients with COPD on the lowest dose of O2 (2/4 L Nasal cannula). In hospice at this time for your father, 2L will suffice.
You do deserve an explanation though, so keep calling until you get through. God bless you.
The nurse told me that if the oxygen is bothersome they stop giving it to the patient.
