Your loved one may not require home care or assisted living services at this time. However, continue to monitor their condition for changes and consider occasional in-home care services for help as needed.

It’s crucial to exercise caution when dealing with companies like “VA In Home Solutions,” especially if they request up front payments. While some firms offer legitimate assistance to veterans, others may engage in predatory practices. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have issued warnings about scams targeting veterans, including those involving home loans and in home services.

You do have to apply for this but and the spouse must be a veteran. This program was instrumental in helping PAY for care but didn't find the care. We were on this extension of VA aid when mom was at a facility and we needed help paying the cost. We used Home Instead when she was at her home as well as trying Meals on Wheels. Home Instead program is very good and alerted us to a serious medical issue as well as giving mom the attention and care she needed.
Elaine, I can find on google a lot of "In Home Solutions, LLC" which clearly state that they are for a fee companies. There are now many companies out there that will, for a fee, help us in finding care, help in steering caregivers our way, help in applying to Medicaid for us. So really, I would clearly investigate exactly what they do. I think that if you are willing to put in the time you can manage what can be got from VA on your own.
The only GOOD thing about these companies is that they DO do this work regularily and may be more aware of just all of the things available that won't be volunteered unless you know that they are there.
We recently had a post from Igloo that was very good about the companies that will apply to Medicaid for you, and her point was that you will STILL have to gather together all of your material, your documents, your proof of service and all of that; by the time you do THAT everything else is easy, so why pay another grand for it.
I would look at any contract with folks very carefully. But I am suspicious by nature. Ask VA if they think that it is worth using them. Sometimes things all depend on how busy you are otherwise, and what time expenditures you are willing to make on your own.
If you USE a company such as this, do let us know if your found it a great help or not, and if you think the fee is fair. This is how we on forum learn and help others. Just kind of word of mouth. Best of luck to you.
