I just installed the 'Ring' and love it! It has a camera and two-way talk. I had to download the Ring app on my phone. It does cost $3.00 a month to keep videos. But it can be to complexes for someone who is not techie! However, if you are techie then it is easy. The downside is you can not access it if you are in an area where you don't have Wi-Fi! I bought it because my brother keeps egging my Jeep and has tried to break-in and now he stays away!

It would be great if you want to keep an eye on what is going on around your house at night!

A few weeks ago, mine caught some guy on my front door looking around in the middle of the night!

Reezy, is this something that your parents wish to have? Are they up-to-date on tech equipment and could learn fairly quickly? Is there an urgent need for these devices?

Come to think of it, my house has an old fashioned two way talk box, with a wall box in just about every room, and I haven't used it once in the 30 years living in my home. It also came with a radio system so music can be played throughout the house on one radio station [that I have used].

If the doorbell rings, I look outside to see if there is a car in the driveway. No car, no answering of the door. Long time ago, people use to look through the peep-hole on the door to see who rang the bell. And before that, people use to yell "who's there?" :)

I would hate to see you spend money for a doorbell, camera, two way talk, remote access, if your parents find it too complex to use. I know for myself, tech devices have burst onto the horizon at a faster pace then many of us seniors can keep up with learning. Life is complex enough as we start to age :P

Just saying.

Google makes one. We have it. Works well. The big box stores sell them, Lowe’s and Home Depot. Or you can order online.

I'll answer to bump you up.

Years ago my mom had a simple intercom that allowed her to ask who was at the door before answering; it did the job, was incredibly low tech and inexpensive and I haven't been able to find an equivalent. I did find camera systems that work with a tablet sized receiver rather than your smartphone, and by now there are probably lots of Ring knock offs on the market, but I have no first hand knowledge of them.
