Because there are so many different kinds of dementia, it's hard to say how long each "stage" can last.
For the more aggressive dementias(vascular and Lewy Body)the life expectancy is just 5-7 years, while Alzheimer's can on for 20+ years, so your guess would be as good as any of ours as to how much longer your husband has in the stage he's in.
Just try to enjoy whatever time you may have left with him as there will come a day when you'll wish he was here for just one more day.

I had an Aunt who lived to almost 101 with advanced dementia and only passed away because she fell and broke her hip and was in the rehab facility where she died in her sleep and we think it might have been a clot. She was extremely healthy with no other medical issues. She didn't have ALZ, LBD or vascular as none of the description of those match her behaviors. If I had to guess I think she had frontal-temporal dementia. When we first noticed consistent impaired behaviors she was in her mid 80s. At 100 she could still feed herself (although with her fingers) and was mobile only with support by person or walker. She could still be walked to the bathroom for BMs, but watched animated movies for many hours a day. We had her folding small kitchen towels and sorting colored poker chips to keep her busy. Then one night she somehow got past her bedrails and fell while trying to walk out of her bedroom.

Please make sure you are doing ample self-care. Even if facility care for him is not an option, consider hiring in-home companion aids to keep him entertained or hire out services (like cleaning) so that you are getting regular breaks. You must make yourself a priority.

You've been writing us for some time now, and I do remember, I think, that you are in close contact with medical in all this? They are certainly the best ones to discuss this with. Dependent on the type of dementia, and dependent on the overall health of the individual, as well as determination in personality, things vary a whole lot.
My brother had probable early Lewy's dementia. He so longed to beat it to his brain. He was, like me, a bit of a control freak. He liked his ducks all lined up and he feared loss of control.
As luck would have it, about 1 1/2 years into diagnosis, he got a very small sore on his shin which went into sepsis when he was antibiotic resistant. He got to come back to his rooms in his ALF with Hospice, and was able to do just as he wished, to die before Lewy's got the better of him.

I just think medical knows more than us, but medical may also be hesitant to make "guesses". I always say in dementia that you should expect the unexpected.
I wish I had a better guess.
