I would like to rinse it with water. Mom has Alzheimer's is deaf and can no longer stand up. But she can sit in a chair. How can I get her hair wet and rinsed? I would like to lean her back into a bowl?

We use a rinse-free shampoo cap. You get it warmed up by running hot water on the outer package. Then open the bag, put the warm cap on her head and gently massage. She will LOVE it.

I wash mom's hair in the sink. I put her in a chair and lean her back. I put a disposable pad over the back of the chair and into the sink with a towel around her shoulders. We don't have a spray nozzle so I let the faucet run and use a big bowl. Works great for us.

I agree with the shampoo tray. I bought mine at a Walgreens. It works pretty well. I line my moms shirt with a folded garbage bag then a towel before putting the tray on her, that keeps her shirt mostly dry, but sometimes she does have to change her shirt but that is worth having clean hair. :)

Yes, there are shampoo trays you can use sitting or lying in bed - it's a bit of a performance, and I haven't tried the full two shampoos and a conditioner routine, and you have to lug a lot of buckets about, but they do work and they aren't massively expensive. There is also a plastic bin liner technique you can find on YouTube which is extremely impressive - but I haven't plucked up the courage to try it yet!

A good stopgap are the no-rinse shampoo caps you put (briefly) in the microwave, and then put them on the person like an ordinary shower hat, massage, remove, and dry the hair as normal. They're quite expensive for what they are, though, and I agree with you that it doesn't feel the same as doing the job properly. But my mother says she's happy, and her hair does feel nice and soft afterwards.

Good luck! This is a really lovely thing to do for your mother, and I hope she gets a lot of pleasure out of having her hair washed - many people do.

I purchased a shampoo tray. They have plastic ones but I opted for the vinyl inflatable one. She sits in the chair at the kitchen sink and I use the faucet sprayer. I have also used it having her sit on her shower chair outside the tub and using the handheld shower head. It works really well -just like being at the salon. I also purchase d a vinyl drape.
