She owns the home. My father passed in 2015. The house is in need of serious repairs . She has no insurance . I have been seeking assistance for over 5 years now. No luck.

There was a similar post to this one and this is my response

"But I doubt if you can get any free help if owner is not living in the house. My Aunt, years ago, was able to get a grant for new windows and a heater. Think she got a roof too. The catch was, she needed to live in that house for another 10 years. If she left or died the cost of the repairs would be due."

So the problem I see is if Mom can get help, will she have this stipulation.

Check the local habitat for Humanity. They do a lot of home repairs in my town.

I think she better get some house insurance especially where she lives.

Contact her local Area Agency on Aging to see if there are any resources.

Does she have any equity in the home? Maybe it's time to sell and downsize?

I have no idea where you could look for financial assistance.

Ha you considered selling the house and moving mom into a senior apartment?

I wish you luck.

Aging care resources are already stressed with trying to find placement for broke demented seniors that would otherwise be homeless. I doubt that there’s much money there for free renovations to a house for the same reasons you don’t see that offered for a car.

Plus, given that she has no nomeowners, any contractor can sue her for whatever injuries he might have at her place if he is not insured himself.

If the heirs don’t have the money or time to assist mom then it is time for mom to downsize into a place where maintenance and whatever else is taken care of.

FYI insurance pays for catastrophe repairs and not maintenence repairs. That is moot

Have you tried calling 211? They should be able to refer you to any available help in your area.

No, that I know of there is no one out there who will repair our homes for us free of charge.
You have been seaching now for this for 5 years. I think that means that it may not exist.

I do know that there are some few programs that are available to those on Medicaid to makes things accessible for them. I honestly have never heard of anything otherwise other than charitable organizations.
If there is a local Habitat for Humanity I would call that organization that uses local volunteer help to build and do some rehab work. They may know some sources for you to check.
You might check with your local faith based communities if you are a person of faith.

You might ultimately consider selling a home you can no longer do upkeep on, and downsizing to a condo or even a rental.

I wish you the very best of luck.
