My mum is in her 80s and she was prescribed Aricept and Levapro by the neurologist since confirmed having Biswanger dementia from her CT Brain. She has been taking for a month and then her behaviour and cognition seemed to be improving and I have stopped her Aricept for a week.
Mum seemed to be doing well without her Aricept and Levapro. I understand that its not advisable to stop Aricept immediately.
Its a very strange situation. How shall I titrate her Aricept or Levapro then? In actual fact when she started taking her Aricept and Levapro after 2 weeks - her condition was worse then when I stopped it now.
Kindly advise.

This is a question for the prescribing physician.

Any medicine has a length of time necessary to take before it gives maximum benefit and when it is withdrawn, it takes awhile to no longer be affecting her.

The fact that you added and withdrew both at the same time also makes it more difficult to know which med was affecting her in the manner you decided was not helpful.

These are strong meds and if given should be given according to the doctors directions. They have much more experience deciding best next steps than you or I have.

We aren't doctors, and advice about titrating medications, and about medications should be discussed with the medical team of the patient who is known and understood by his/her own team.
I sure wish you the best of luck.
