Find Care & Housing
Why are you doing this? There is Medicaid available and what about their funds?

You should not be paying for their care, that is their responsibility.

This is so common here and it never works out, the caregiver loses everything including their sanity.

Don't continue to jeopardize your future, they will be gone and you will not have anything, jobless and destitute.

Back off, get a job, if necessary have them apply for Medicaid, you have options explore them.

This starts with you. If you need a job to survive then you cannot be their caregiver...full stop. Let me say this again, if you cannot afford to NOT work so you are available for them, then you cannot be their caregiver. That is just the reality of the situation. You should not be jeopardizing your future because they want their lives to remain constant. If they need help, they need to be the ones to compromise and change.

Are either of your parents on Medicaid? Some states have programs where patients who qualify for home care can choose a family member to provide care and the state will pay them. Apparently the pay is generally low.

However, even if your state offers this and you qualify, it may not be the best choice for you. Caregiving has to work for both parties.

@jmr - welcome to the forum. I guess my first question is - WHY is being a caregiver for your parents causing you to go into financial debt? Your parents funds should be covering their care.

There are a ton of caregivers who come here with similar issues/concerns.

Have you had to stop working in order to provide their care? Are you losing time at your job because their care takes up so much of your time? Are you paying for their care out of you own pocket? All of these options are unadvisable.

You cannot afford to lose your livelihood to provide care for your parents. You cannot afford to use your funds to pay for their care. There are programs that are designed to provide care for those who cannot afford to pay for their own care.

But we will need to know more about your situation in order to offer advice.
